Il y a un mois, lors des championnats québécois de vélo de montagne, au Mont-Sainte-Anne, Alexandre Frappier a remporté l'épreuve du cross-country de la catégorie maîtres (expert) 30-39 ans.

So just a little update, cool races here so far! This past weekend was a complete 180 compared to racing in Ireland last weekend. Ireland was a very relaxed event. Almost no start-finish area to be seen, super technical course with one long climb and one long decent per lap with 6 laps.

Finished 5th with a rear flat in the first lap, I think that’s my first racing flat in some time. 1:50 minutes change judging by the lap times. Still got my butt kicked by the front runners though!! Made some new friends so I'm happy!

Yesterday raced in Hungary... OK!! Crazy hot! Warmed up with icepacks all over my body, I think this was a good plan, until the race was postponed for 45 minutes due to start order woes...

After call up I don’t think they really had the start order figured out as I was near the back, Haha good times. Raced a little too aggressively up to 9th on the first lap out of 10 and had a mini blow up due to going too hard.

The course was short. 10 minutes laps on a VERY bumpy farm field. They must have cut it with a lawn mower the day beforehand, there was ZERO singletrack!! I mean the tape narrowed in a little on some large tractor ruts!

Just a small rise in a field we zig zagged up and down 5.5 times per lap. Everything else was Pro with UCI points and prize money. Urban area for start finish, showers, etc..

For sure my new bench mark as to what to compare an un-enjoyable course too. Haha enough of the negative though haha.

Anyways, I never quite made it to the front group of 7 who where rolling along nicely. After my blow up I was back out of the top 10 (top 10 are UCI points for C2, and that’s what I’m here for!!) I actually thought about pulling out at one point!! Was finding it especially hard, so hot and so not fun at the time... Sometimes you have to look at yourself from an outside perspective. Realize you’re not going to die, you're a bike racer, you're going to keep going, and there is no other options... (I really didn’t want to) long story short, caught a few guys in the last 4 laps, finished 8th.

Got some points and a massage with some of my 65 Euros winnings (one hour massage was 12 euro!).


Off to Croatia this week for some training and enjoying the sea. Then Slovenia race next weekend. I'll tell you guys about the back issues later. Make sure to keep up with your stretching, especially when your traveling!!!!!!!

Jonathan Boucher (Opus/OGC), un petit gars de Beauport, représentait le Canada aux Championnats du monde de vélo de montagne, catégorie Junior, fin juin dernier. Il fut mis au défi d'écrire un résumé de 2000 mots, résumé que nous avons allègrement entrecoupé de questions ultra- pertinentes et de photos accompagnées de critiques artistiques fort pertinentes, en espérant que vous ne perdiez pas le fil dans tout cela. Les aventures de Joblow en Italie

Le 13 Juin était le jour de mon départ en direction de mes premiers championnats du monde à vie à Val Di Sole, en Italie. J'étais jumelé à un certain Raphaël Gagné pour voyager … Je ne sais pas si ce nom vous dit quelque chose? On partait donc de Quebec City pour se rendre à Detroit, puis à Amsterdam (pays des muffins au pot) pour ensuite se rendre finalement à Milan, pour faire 4h de char jusqu'à Commezzadura, magnifique vallée du soleil (Val di sole).

L'Italie vue à travers la vitre de l'autobus. Léger flou artistique, surexposition dramatique et reflet dans la fenêtre symbolisant la réflexion de l'athlète, nerveux et angoissé à l'approche de son premier Championnat du monde.

On arrive donc à notre magnifique hôtel, qui n'avait jamais reçu de clients avant nous, un samedi soir vers 10h. On se cante donc pour notre première vraie nuit de sommeil en environ 48 heures. On s'adapte tranquillement pas vite au décalage horaire et au mode de vie de l'Europe (et de ses prises électriques non-standard) au fil du temps. On monte nos bikes, on va rouler le parcours!

Gilles : Première fois en Europe, Jo? Autres adaptations difficiles, hormis les trous de prises électriques?
Jo : L'ouest canadien ça compte tu pour l'Europe ? Les adaptations les plus difficiles ça serait le décalage horaire de 6h, sinon le fait que y'a pas de toaster nulle part, faque on peut pas se faire des toasts pour déjeuner !

Le parcours des championnats du monde … c'est … toff … 3 grosses bosses, une de 4-5 minutes à 10%, une autre de 4-5 minutes à 14%, et une de 6-7 minutes à un peu moins de 10%. Je m'attendais à un parcours très roulant d'après les commentaires que ce certain Raphaël Gagné me faisait sur ses championnats du monde antécédents. Apparemment qu'il est bon lui … Finalement, on avait des assez bonnes descentes assez techniques et très plaisantes.

Du haut de notre chambre on pouvait voir la première difficulté du parcours et, avec mes co-chambreurs Evan et Tyson (les 2 juniors), on s'amusait à voir le grand Absalon dévorer la montagne avec son putain de bécik de champion (j'pense que y'a un bionX dedans). Une fois même, il passait dans la rue juste en face de nous, et les 2 petits juniors gloussaient à la moindre vue d'un Absalon ou de «Tubular wheels» (les tubulaires là là) . De mon côté, je mangeais des sandwiches au prosciutto sacrément délicieux et m'esclaffais devant la naïveté des juniors sans expérience.

Gilles : Je t'ai corrigé ton «prochiuto» et ton «esclaffait», ça va?

Jo : Zut y'é tant quel CEGEP orcommence!

Le jour de la course à relais arriva. L'équipe était composée de Raphaël Gagné (le bon la?), Evan Guthrie (le junior qui glousse), Catherine Pendrel (qui a failli battre le junior qui glousse dans ce même relais), et de Derek Zandstra (remarquez bien les 4 consonnes de suite … c'est rare que ça arrive). C'était le 3ième jour de 3 jours consécutifs de pluie, ce qui rendit les descentes escarpées enracinées encore plus ardues. Notre équipe s'en tira avec une 6e place!

C'est après cette course que l'enfer envahit la vallée du soleil. Y'a fait au dessus de 25° pour le reste du voyage. 2 jours après le relais, c'était la race des juniors femmes et des U-23 femmes. Comme vous le savez probablement, on a eu deux 6e places dans cette même journée, soit l'étonnante Bianca Adolph, qui avait complété un tour de plus à Bromont, et la très jolie (encore plusse en vrai qu'en photo) Emily Batty.

Gilles : Hmmm. Toi et Emily, vous en êtes où dans votre relation?

Jo : C'est platonique notre affaire … en fait je ne pense pas qu'elle sache qu'elle m'aime et mon coeur est déjà pris héhé (désolé Emily)

Le lendemain c'était l'heure des juniors canadiens inexpérimentés de se lancer dans ce troupeau d'étalons sauvages et enragés d'Européens de 102 coureurs. Je partais dans les derniers, c'est-à-dire, dans la 3ième dernière ligne (faites le compte, c'est 8 par lignes…). On a la marque de 3 minutes avec la tite fille en bikini qui passe devant nous, puis la marque de 2 minutes avec la même tite fille puis la marque de une minute. Au micro on entend 30 secondes, puis 15 secondes. Environ 4 secondes plus tard, c'est le pistolet qui retentit… j'vous dit que l'UCI a pas vraiment le timing … j'espère qu'ils calculent pas le 80% de cette façon la parce que je porterais plainte! héhé

Gilles : Ton coach t'as pas dit qu'au Championnat du monde, le signal peut être donné n'importe quand à l'intérieur du 15 secondes une fois le signal du 15 secondes donné? Au fait, c'était qui ton coach là-bas, maintenant que y'a pu de Ti-Mike pour faire de vous des adultes?

Jo : NNonnn on m'avait pas dit ça ! Je retire donc mes complaintes. Notre coach c'était Hushang jmesouvienspudunomdefamilleasiatique (désolé si je l'ai mal orthographié) (by the way, je t'ai corrigé ton la-bas, tout est cool ?)

Gilles : Ouais, ça va être correct, mais je te conseille de te garder une petit gêne et faire preuve de respect pour tes aînés, mon jeune pas éduqué toé. Le nom, c'est AMIRI, et officiellement, c'est le coach national du centre d'entraînement de l'ouest, mais officieusement, c'est le coach national du MTB. Shaun O'Donnel, de l'ACC, nous le confirmait candidement le 28 juin dernier: " Houshang still fills the role of the national coach at the Victoria Cycling Center and he is also the coach responsible for mountain bike at this moment". Pourquoi on l'a gardé, lui, et on a foutu dehors Michel Leblanc? Amiri serait-il plus compétent que Ti-Mike? j'en doute. C'est de quoi qui reste à tirer au clair. Entoucas, Ti-Mike se serait arrangé pour te suivre dans ta course et t'aurait peut-être aidé à te pacer pour terminer au moins 66e. :-)

Jo : Penses-tu que Ti-Mike m'aurait massé pendant la course pour me libérer de mes crampes?

Gilles : Je sais pas. Il le fait pour moi, mais avec un mineur, ça peut coûter cher...

Donc, ça part en frustré, comme si la course durait 5-10 minutes et qu'il n'y avait pas de lendemain. 100 mètres après le départ, y'a un ti-gars qui se plante juste à ma gauche, je vois le bécik qui revole dans les airs. Dans ma tête je me dis : «Yessssss, 3 coureurs de moins sur 102!!!!!»… Voyant donc que je suis beaucoup trop overpace, je ralentis la cadence pour la première bosse. En arrivant en haut, je constate avec désarroi que les sapristi d'Européens marchaient dans la descente … c'était vraiment pas trop difficile là comme descente en plus, je dirais que ça ressemblait à la descente des écureuils au MSA, ou encore à la 1837 … Mais non je blague! Donc, je finis mon premier tour environ 91e, comme me le confie canadian cyclist. Dans les tours suivants, j'ouvre la machine, comme le peloton s'étire, j'ai plus de marge de manœuvre dans les descentes et peux dépasser quelques cyclistes. Au début du 3e tour, je me lève debout pour finir une bosse en force, c'est alors que mes jambes me crient au secours à coup de crampes stratégiquement bien placées pour faire arrêter le plus décidé des taureaux qui court vers son drapeau rouge favori. Je continue quand même. Voyant que je progresse dans le peloton, je garde la cadence. Ma meilleure position sera une 65e position à la fin du 3e tour, comme me le confie encore canadian cyclist. Durant mon 4e tour d'une série (prévue) de 5, je recule littéralement. Plus aucune énergie. J'ai même le filet de bave assez consistant qui pend de ma bouche et de mon nez et de mes oreilles (?) étant donné que je suis plus ou moins bien hydraté. C'était vraiment la souffrance la plus totale que j'aie expérimentée. En arrivant au lap pour mon 5e et dernier tour, on me sort de la course, la règle du 80% se fait appliquer. Honnêtement, je n'avais pas vraiment le cœur pour un autre tour. Je l'aurais fait, mais ça aurait été vraiment pénible et long. Je pense que les commissaires de l'UCI auraient été obligés d'envoyer le 4-roues pour voir si je suis encore dans le parcours et ils m'auraient retrouvé en train de m'abreuver paisiblement, telle une brebis écartée, dans la rivière qui coulait non loin de la dernière descente. Je termine finalement 67e, quand même satisfait de ma course, mais pas vraiment satisfait du numéro qui va avec la performance.

Oui, Jo porte bien le no 78, là, derrière, avec la feuille d'érable sur son cuissard. C'était pour vous démontrer que on ne peut avoir tous les talents, c'est-à-dire aller vite en bicycle et prendre des bonnes photos. Je suggère à Raphaël de se payer un stage avec des pros de la photo, le mieux serait au prestigieux MBIPA
(Manon Bourque International Photography Academy).

Finalement on revenait à QUEBEC CITY, NOT SO INTERNATIONAL, INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT pi on a été pogné, moi et ce Raphël Gagné, 7e aux mondiaux dans la catégorie U-23, à Detroit… c'était le soir de la Saint-Jean, et ils annulent un vol pour Québec. Moi je gage que c'est parce qu'une gang d'adolescents un peu saoul (ou sur l'ecstasy) a mis le feu à l'aéroport…

Gilles : Dis-moi... À part Canadian Cyclist après coup, avais-tu quelqu'un pour te donner des splits durant ta course? Jo : Durant la course, j'avais pas vraiment de splits. Pis ca me dérange pas vraiment … tsé se faire dire que t'es à 18 minutes de la tête … c'est pas super motivant ! L'équipe de l'ACC s'est occupé des splits et je devrais avoir ça dans pas trop longtemps par e-mail. En gros je me fais prendre du temps dans les montées et dans les descentes et dans les sections plates … Le gars qui s'occupait des splits s'appelait Ben Sporer, physiologiste.

Gilles : J'imagine que les juniors canadiens inexpérimentés sont restés pour voir courir leurs aînés. Comment c'était? Autant de monde en Italie qu'ici au Mont-Sainte-Anne?

Jo: Les juniors canadiens inexpérimentés sont en effet restés pour voir les aînés courir, y'avait Evan qui pissait partout comme un ptit chien excité à cause qu'il pouvait PRESQUE toucher Absalon, et qu'il voyait des Tubular wheels à peu près à chaque coureur Européen. Quant à Tyson, il était beaucoup plus raisonnable, il pissait un peu moins.

Gilles: Tubulaires : Absalon n'utilisait pas ses roues Fulcrum Red Metal Zero? (je roule la-dessus ces temps-ci et ça va ben) Il était en boyaux Tufo et jantes de carbon, style? Quelle marque? Ou devrais-je demander ce genre de détails aux juniors qui pissent partout? Jo: Je sais pas ce qu'il utilisait … honnêtement, je ne suis pas un tit junior qui pisse partout devant ces tubulaires pi devant les roues que les pros utilisent !! J'aime bien les pièces FRM par exemple !

Gilles: Tiens, un coup parti, jasons mécanique. Quel vélo utilisais-tu et comment s'est-il comporté dans ces conditions difficiles. (Si t'as pété ton cadre, on passe à la prochaine question)

Jo: Mon vélo Opus (http://www.opusbike.com) Fhast 1 allait comme sur des roulettes! Les vélos Opus sont des super bons vélos, bien que leurs vélos de montagne soient très jeunes ! La géométrie est agressive et confortable, le bike se manie très bien et réagit très bien dans les descentes et sections techniques! Mon Opus Fhast 1, je l'aime!

Gilles: 170$!!!! 85$ aller et 85$ retour?

Jo: Non 170$ pour l'aller seulement… en revenant j'étais un joueur de golf…

Tabarouette il manque juste quelques mots, un deux trois quatre cinq six sept huit neuf dix onze douze treize quatorze quinze seize dix-sept dix-huit dix-neuf vingt vingt-et-un vingt-deux vingt-trois vingt-quatre vingt-cinq vingt-six vingt-sept vingt-huit vingt-neuf trente trente-et-un … je suis tanné, j'arrête. J'aime bien le vert, les livres et les étoiles. J'aime bien profiter de la vie et vivre d'amour et d'eau fraîche. Pour moi, l'été est la saison de l'éclosion de plein de belles choses, la nature à son apogée et le pollen plein le nez.

Gilles : Bon, voilà, on a atteint le 2000 mots, tel que demandé par P.-O., l'ami de Jonathan. Il voulait aussi une page couverture, le P.O., comme dit Jo. Pas l'E.P.O. Anyway, la voilà. (Cheap un peu, mais on la met pareil.)

Autoportrait intitulé "insomnie dans mon petit polo rose". Notez l'influence bourquienne dans la composition, qui va droit au but, et dans l'instantanéité de la spontanéité du demi-regard. Contrairement à Raph, Jo est allé à la bonne école.

Hello Opus,

Hope everything is going well for you in Montreal I didn’t keep in touch with you lately but I will try to keep you posted on what is going on with the European branch of Opus Bike.

We are right now in Germany preparing for the second round of the world cup on a very selective and elitist course. Things are going well and we are working a lot on Kiara’s back to make sure the pain is not coming back. A French osteopath that treat Kiara since last year gave me tips and movement to do on her to help and it seems to work.

The new Opus Fhast 1 raced is second race last week end and things are good. It took us some time to find the same position as last year because the geometry change quite a lot from Kiara’s special Fhast 1 from last year. The top tube is very long and the seat tube also, but with plumb line and good tape measure and try, we managed to find the good position for Kiara and the bike respond really well to kiara’s solicitation, and believe me, she will ask it for a lot this week end.

Since we are around since more than a year now, people and the international bike scene is used to the Opus brand and that is nice to be recognise as Team Opus. I have attached a few pictures from Germany where we are riding in vineyard to get to the race site.it’s quite a lovely area.

We were in Barcelona this weekend (April 13th) to race the Super Prestigio MassiI y Gran Premio Massi '08 in Barcelona.

The race was held in the Olympic park and around the Montjuïc Castle from where you have a great view of the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the city of Barcelona on the other side.

The multiple events have been put together by ocisport.net and you could enjoy a big bike show gathering all the bike industry, a round of the UCI MTB Trial World Cup and the Super Prestigio Massi, a class 1 UCI race counting as the third round of the Gran Premi Massi Copa Catalana International.

Two Canadians were racing on the weekend in the elite categories - Kiara Bisaro (Team Opus-OGC) and Seamus McGrath (Team Fuji).

The course was not very technical but had a lot of slippery corners that were difficult to negotiate, and by misjudging your speed or your line, you could have a bite of the Catalan dust.

The weather was great with over 23C on both days of the weekend, allowing racers to wear their short sleeves and work on their tan lines.

In the women's race, Kiara Bisaro and her Opus Fhast 1 took a strong start with Cecile Rode-Ravanel (Team Lapierre) and Anna Villar (Team Massi). These three girls stayed very close all the race, until in the third lap Cecile Ravanel opened a gap on Kiara and took the lead until she crossed the finish line. After 4 laps Cecile Rode-Ravanel crossed the line for first place, following by Kiara Bisaro and Anna Villar to complete the podium.

I wanted to take some time and give a shout out to some of my sponsors. One of them being Opus Bikes. I've had a lot of random sponsors over the years. Some good, some not so good. Sponsors that gave stuff for free, others who provided things I had to pay for.

Last year as travel increased, I needed some new bikes and some support. There wouldn't be a way I could afford to travel and buy my bikes along with clothing and all that stuff. I asked Jared at Smooth Cycle if he thought Opus would be in for a sponsorship for 07. He called the rep Terry Tomlin to see what he thought.

Without any regional results (I was in BC), and not having talked to Terry in years, he was full on aboard. I mentioned that I wouldn't be in the Maritimes very much as I was looking for more National results (this bites Terry as he is an East Coast rep). No matter he said and within a few phone calls I had a team kit, helmet, and the best most ridiculous deal I've ever seen given on a bike that wasn't free. Needless to say I was pretty impressed that Opus and Terry put that much faith me for a unproven return.

The year went by, and I tried to be in the East Coast as much as possible to fly the flag. For the most part, the season went ok. After a year of not racing consistently I had some good results. But one thing that I really appreciated was the support from a Canadian company.

I feel I can really appreciate Opus Bike as opposed to any other brand because I've seen them both from a racer's point of view, who spends his life on a bike, and also as a salesman. Opus being a Canadian company, based out of Montreal makes it hit a little bit closer to home. Not to mention they are a great riding bike, and they tend to be 2/3 cheaper than your Treks, Cannondales, Specialized with similar parts packages.

Jared once told me that of all the bikes he's ridden (shop owner) the Opus was the best riding roadie hes had. I can attest to that as the Fhast (even though I haven't been on it this year) is top 2 MTB bikes I've ridden. Next to my beloved Surly 1x1.

This year the support continues with Opus. Terry and the crew have again given me great support with the possibility of minimal return. I'm riding for a team in BC (hence their team kit/sponsors) but I mentioned I was worn thin when it comes to clothing. Terry said it was no problem and I now have my boots filled with enough Opus clothes to get me through the year.

Even after these legs stop spinning with racing intentions. I can definitely see myself rocking the Opus brand.

Bisaro Wins Gran Premi-Massi Copa Catalana Internacional BTT

September 3, 2007 - September began for Kiara Bisaro (Can) Team Opus-OGC with the BTT Gran Premi Massi Copa Catalana International at the ski resort of Vallnord, in Andorra, the site of World Cup #4 in 2008.

The course was similar to what will be used for the World Cup there next year, so it was a great opportunity to check it out. The loop has some steep climbs and a lot of really fun technical sections. Vallnord is also developing their bike park, so sections of that were included. "I was a bit stressed because it is at altitude, so I never know how I will feel. I felt great! I had a lot of fun racing there and it was great for the morale to win a race the weekend before World Championships," said Kiara.

The organizers were really nice and did a really good job on the weekend taking care of everything. They are ready to host a UCI MTB World Cup, May 31-June 1, 2008.

It's official, in it's first season the Opus mountain bike team will have 2 athletes representing Canada at the world championships this September. Kiara Bisaro (Elite) and Andréanne Pichette (Junior) will be taking the start line in Fort Williams Scotland with our Opus Fhast hardtails.

I would like to congratulate the athletes and all the support crew who helped all season long. This is an achievement that Opus and it's athletes can be really proud of in it's inaugural year. The whole team has done really well this summer and this confirms the dedication and passion within the Opus team.

Full suspension frames
Our floating shock suspension system operates independently of pedaling and braking forces. This allows the suspension to do its job in the most efficient way possible. Hard tails
Our race-ready Fhast hardtails offer the perfect blend of lightweight, triple-butted 7005 aluminum and vibration-absorbing high-modulus carbon fibre. And we’ve incorporated state-of-the-art materials and design concepts to give you everything you need in a performance hardtail. Opus’ all-aluminum hardtails are made from the same DNA as our Fhast series. They feature lightweight, triple-butted 7005 aluminum tubing, cold forged drop outs, deep 3D gussets and our “form follows function” Flow stays. And every Opus ATB bike has been spec’ed with as much care and detail as we've put into the frames.

Le Fhast est une machine de course qui, par son cadre en aluminium 7005 et ses haubans en carbone à haute modulation, assure la légèreté dans les ascensions, maniabilité dans les virages et l’absorption des vibrations dans les descentes. De plus, nous avons intégré aux matériaux un design unique aux tubes pour fournir une performance exceptionnelle.
Nos cadres Opus tout aluminium partagent la même génétique de notre série Fhast. Des concepts qui allient style et fonction : tubes en aluminium 7005 à triple épaisseur variée, pattes forgées à froid, gousset profond 3D, ainsi que des haubans et bases « Flow Stays».

Montolieu

Hello Ville St Laurent,

We were very pleased to see that the Opus-OGC provencial Team did well at the 1st Canada cup and Happy to see that Caroline Villeneuve and Andreanne Pichette were on the Podium.

We are back in our base camp at my parents place in Montolieu, south of France after a trip to switzerland for the swiss power cup. Kiara had an okay day and tha competition was hard, but she manage to put in a hard effort and did an amazing job. She was on the Podium again.

The Fhast 1 has already made some podium (USA, France, Spain, Switzerland) and I hope that Opus start to be known a bit more here in Europe, we are working on it.

We are planning to go to Italy this week end to race a class 1 to get UCI points.
It will put us on the way to germany and everybody is racing a lot, so, Kiara need to move up in the international ranking (she's 56 today). that's the race we are planning to go to.

I will keep you posted on that.

Team Opus's Kiara BISARO wins the Open de Espana Maxxis in Ager (Lleida)

Kiara Bisaro Team Opus raced the third event of the Open de Espana Maxxis in Ager (Lleida) on the 6th of May and managed to win this race with a comfortable advance on a Spanish field of women racers in the great area of the Noguera region, in the Catalan Pyrenees.
3 laps on a 10,1 Km race track and 1h37:55 later Kiara crossed the finish line on her Opus Fhast Iwith a large gap on the second and third Spanish racer that apparently didn't recognized Kiara on the start line and didn't react when Kiara attacked after less than 2 Km in the race.
Kiara continues her Racing European Tour Sunday in Switzerland the swisspower cup in Hasliberg. In between she is training in Montolieu (Aude) under the sun of South of France.

Bisaro Wins French ATB Marathon

Riding her Opus Fhast I, Team Opus's Kiara Bisara won the Nimes Garrigue VTT , a gruelling 63km ATB race held in southern France April 29th.

Kiara is staying in France between European World Cup races and entered the Nimes Garrigue event as a training event between World Cups.

Team Opus's Kiara Bisaro race to 2nd place in Sea Otter Classic XC

April 15, 2007: Kiara Bisara of Team Opus opened her first season on an Opus with two visits to the podium and a 2nd place finish Sunday in the Women's XC, her best-ever finish in the Monterey, California Sea Otter Classic.

Kiara sprinted past Katerina Nash in the final 500m of the race to finish behind winner Georgia Gould.

"I have been working on being more of a tiger when I am racing", said Kiara in a post-race email to Opus HQ. "Seems like it is working. GRRRR! The new Opus bike Fhast I is so nice. It is so encouraging to know that for my first race I can still be competitive with girls who have been racing for a month."

The XC race was Kiara's 2nd podium finish at the Sea Otter. On Saturday, on a mud and rain-filled course, she finished third in the Pro Short Track Race. She moved up steadily throughout the race moving into 3rd with three laps to go. "This is the first time I have ever actually made the podium in a short track", said Kiara.
Kiara now heads to Houffalize, Belgium for next week's World Cup season opening race.

"The new Fhast I is incredible. I love it! Sylvain got it set up for me yesterday and after making a few adjustments I took it out. It has been a long time since I have been mtbing. I was a bit unsure how it was going to go. For the first hour I was a bit sloppy and needed a few attempts to get used to the new fork. There are a lot of big logs here so it is important to be able to ride over them if you want flow. I am still having a bit of trouble on anything over 50cm but overall it came back quickly. The bike is super responsive. It climbs really well and is great in the corners. After the first ride I can say I love it. It is tough to get on a new bike and be able to say that! So things are great beyond my expectations."
