Champion québécois 2010 sur Opus

Il y a un mois, lors des championnats québécois de vélo de montagne, au Mont-Sainte-Anne, Alexandre Frappier a remporté l'épreuve du cross-country de la catégorie maîtres (expert) 30-39 ans.

Alex roule un Opus Fhast en carbone.

Championnats canadiens cross-country

Samedi, le 17 juillet, se tenait les Championnats canadiens de cross-country à Canmore, AB, pour les athlètes commandités par Opus. Lors de la course de la catégorie Junior Homme, trois coureurs sur vélos Opus sont passés à moins d'une minute trente secondes du titre avec Steven Noble en deuxième position.

La course des Femmes moins de 23 ans a vu Cassandre Olivier-Lapierre croiser le fil d'arrivée en 5e position.

A full Opus podium

Impressive results from Opus XC racers this weekend at the first Nationals in Tremblant. Natasha Oldcorn form Team Jetpower got a 3rd place in Junior Women's standings.

A full Opus podium for the Junior mens with Mitch Bailey (Jetpower Team) winning followed by Antoine Carron (Genetik) and Steven Noble (Jetpower Team) rounding it out at third

Mike Garrigan, Jetpower Team manager and coach also won the special Red Bull Uphill / downhill race were a DH racer and XC racer team up.

After getting back from the Quebec Cup in L'Anse-St-Jean last night at 1h30 AM, I will stop by the office this morning to empty the team stuff and will take the rest of the day off.

The team had good showing this weekend. On a new race course we had a couple of podiums.

In senior elite men, Jonathan Boulanger (Opus/OGC) after coming back from a back injury got second. Marc-André Daigle, Louis Boissinot sub rep, got third and Léni Trudel (Opus/OGC) got fourth. All three rode their Stakh 1 without problems.

In senior elite women, Caroline Villeneuve (Opus/OGC) got a commanding lead right from the start to her second win off the season. Caroline was happy with her Stakh 1 she was feeling super good in the technical stuff this weekend.

In Junior mens, Jonathan Boucher (Opus/OGC), after coming back from the Worlds Championships, put in a super ride for is second win off the season. He caught all the way to the fourth place in elite men, they had left 2 minutes earlier from start line. Steve Caillé (Opus/OGC) on is part got fifth place.

In junior women, Andréanne Pichette (Opus/OGC), rode a good race and got third. She was happy with her race and was feeling good after crossing the finish line. THe form is getting back after a rough season start.

On my part I had two downhill races on Sunday in master expert categorie. I manage to get both wins with a pretty big margin over the second place finisher. Track conditions were just nasty with a tone of rain during the week and weekend. It was mud all over the place and big hole everywhere. In the end I got 14 second gap in the first race and 24 second in the second race over second place.

It was a pretty good weekend for team Opus/OGC with 7 medals. Next round is Canadian
Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne in 3 weeks.

The final Canadian team for the 2008 MTB World Championships as been
announced and two of the Opus rider are on the team.
Kiara Bisaro will be racing against the best elite women in the world and
Jonathan Boucher will go after the best Junior men's on the planet.

Kiara will race on Sunday June 22 and Jonathan is schedule to race on
Thursday June 19.

Le Châteauguois Czeslaw Lukaszewicz a endossé le maillot jaune CRMS de leader à l'issue de la deuxième tranche de la série cycliste Robert Brisson disputée jeudi dernier à Mercier.

Porte-couleur de l'équipe 2peer.com, qu'il a lui-même fondée, Czeslaw a raflé la médaille d'argent tout comme il l'avait fait lors de la première étape. Ses deux podiums lui ont permis de se hisser au sommet du classement cumulatif.

C'est un dénommé Éric Provost, d'Opus/PowerWatts, du même groupe d'âge que Lukaszewicz, entre 40 et 49 ans (maître B), qui a gagné la course de jeudi dernier. Alexandre Charest, du Vélo Club Longueuil, a terminé 3e.

Du côté des femmes, une résidante de Châteauguay, Silvana Ferrara, du Vélo Club Sud-Ouest, a décroché l'argent. L'or est allé à Lucie Poulin, du club Le Yéti, et le bronze à Vanessa Godbehere.

Coéquipier de Czeslaw et aussi résidant de Châteauguay, Steve Bouvette a conservé le maillot vert de meilleur sprinteur.

Au total, 82 coureurs ont pris le départ jeudi dernier. La région était très bien représentée avec une quinzaine de participants, se réjouit Bob Fransham, organisateur de l'événement avec Alain Brisson.

Kiara Bisaro (Opus) had a strong race at Andorra, finishing 13th. However, Marie-Hèlene Prémont and Catherine Pendrel from Canada finished 3rd and 4th so Kiara faces a real challenge qualifying as one of Canada's two riders at the Olympics.

And Opus riders finished 4th, 5th (Stéphane Le Beau) and 6th in the Masters B category at Charlevoix, QC, also this weekend.

Hardwood Hills Canada Cup #3

This weekend was the third stop of the XC Canada Cup at Hardwood Hills ski&mtb centre in Ontario. The Opus team was present with 5 riders. They all started at 11h30 on Sunday. 5 laps for the Elite men and 4 laps for the Elite women and Junior men were scheduled on the fast rolling course. The weather was cold and a bit of rain was falling on and off.

First was the Elite Men with Jonathan Boulanger (Opus) and Léni Trudel (Opus). The
pace at the start was very fast, as the top rider wanted to be up front for the single track section a the top of the first climb. Jonathan had a good start around 20th place but Léni got caught in a crash 500 meters after the start. He had to worked is way up the field from last place. The fast pace kept going for all the 5 laps. Jonathan moved up to 15th despite a crash. For Léni bad luck struck again at the end of the third lap. He was around the 20th place when is seat post broke in half. He stop at the tech zone so I could take the piece out and put the saddle back in with the reminder of the seat post. I sent him back for half a lap to meet him at the other tech zone with a new seat post. But after 4.5 KM standing and sitting too low the cramps were just to bad when he got to me at the second tech zone. He finally stop there.

The Junior men's with Jonathan Boucher (Opus) and Steve Caillé (Opus) put a good fight and it was good for 8th and 9th place. They both came sprinting for they positions and fired up the crowd with a really close finish.

Caroline Villeneuve (Opus) in senior elite women was 11th.

Team mechanic got 3 third in master sport 30-34.

Next week Quebec Cup circuit move to Baie-St-Paul for the third race of the
series.

Quelle belle journée ! Un samedi 17 mai, comme ils se font rares ces temps-ci. Sous un soleil radieux, un léger vent, un circuit agréable autour du lac Sept-Îles près de Saint-Raymond, de petites montées agréables et de belles descentes. 82 km, 7 tours du lac avec une cinquantaine de participants dans chaque catégorie.

La course débute mollo puis à peine dans le premier tour Éric Provost, mon coéquipier Opus/PowerWatts décide de mettre la gomme. Il attaque et contre attaque et attaque de nouveau. Je l’observe. Il est infatigable. J’attends la bonne occasion. Elle se présente au troisième tour. Une attaque, une seule, je rejoins Ron Amos parti un peu avant moi. Je passe devant lui, il ne s’accroche pas. Je l’attends et je vois qu’Éric pousse à fond, détaché du peloton. Il est seul. Je réduis le tempo pour attendre Éric qui nous rejoint. Le peloton est à 15 secondes de nous au début de la côte. Et dans la bosse, nous déposons Ron qui ne parvient pas à s’accrocher. Un groupe de chasse nous poursuit. Seul José Jorge parvient à faire la jonction. À trois, nous sommes partis pour un effort en puissance. À fond pour prendre de l’avance sur le peloton. C’est fait, c’est la bonne. Après 50 km en échappée, je croise la ligne d’arrivée le premier, Éric second et José troisième. Éric tu es un gentleman, tu étais le plus fort du groupe !

Sous un pluie froide et constante, deux coureurs Maitre B de l'équipe Opus/PowerWatts, Gordon Stovel et Éric Provost ont doublé le peloton de 60 coureurs, lors de la deuxième tranche de la série Marco Pantani, mercredi le 7 mai. Stovel et Provost ont pris le premier et deuxième rang alors que leur compagnon d'échappée Fabien Grignard, du club CGR, a pris la 3e position. Stéphane Le Beau de l'équipe Opus/PowerWatts a gagné le sprint du peloton pour prendre la 4e position.

L'équipe Opus signe un second doublé de suite dans la série Master Marco Pantani. Éric Provost et Stéphane Le Beau occupent les deux premières positions du classement général.

Yesterday, at the first Wednesday race of the Marco Pantani series for Masters, a 3 men break with Éric Provost (Opus - PowerWatts), Stéphane Le Beau (Opus - PowerWatts) and Sylvan Adams (Calyon - Martin Swiss) lapped the field of 70 riders and finished in the same order.
